Fiberglass tape is a staple in drywall work. When patching holes or cracks in drywall, the tape is applied over the seams or damaged areas before the application of joint compound. It provides reinforcement and helps to prevent the joint compound from cracking as it dries. This is especially useful in areas where the drywall is likely to experience stress, such as around doorways or in high – traffic areas.
Similar to drywall, it can be used to reinforce plaster surfaces. It helps to hold the plaster together and reduces the risk of cracking due to shrinkage or movement. For example, in older homes with plaster walls, fiberglass tape can be used to repair small cracks and give the plaster a longer lifespan.
